Will A.I. Take My Job?

I bet that is a question a lot of people are asking these days, and it is something that even I have to ask myself.

Whether A.I. could do a lot of what I do, personally, on a day-to-day basis is not even up for debate. A.I. could definitely replace my function as an operations manager, taking enquiries, gathering information and quoting based on that info.

And as I write this, I’ve just read about “Manus” a new tool from Meta, that can optimise websites (Search Engine Optimisation), which is another function of my personal work within this business.

Other Admin, Invoicing, Accounting – of course A.I. will be able to do that.

The question is more about whether A.I. could perform the entire task of moving people’s belongings from
A to B…

So let’s dive into that:

– Driving – automated cars already exist, so could the vans eventually be fully self-driving and un-manned? Yes, I’m pretty sure we are not far off that.

– Loading & Unloading – can robots perform complex precision tasks like moving specific items and putting them in specific places, carefully, without damaging them, and stacking them safely and in the most space-efficient way? And then unloading them in an orderly fashion without any accidents, and placing them where the customer wants in the new home or office?

Well, I think that we would certainly not be far off that being a technical possibility, and when it is, I can imagine that the A.I. Robots will actually better at it that humans, which is a daunting concept for us humans.

– Disassembly & Reassembly – I imagine A.I. could do this more efficiently and have access to online info regarding assembly instructions

– Packing Items into Boxes – something customers occasionally ask for, and I think A.I. robots would eventually be able to perform this task without issue.

– Friendly Interaction with the Customers – as we have already experienced, A.I. is pretty good at that.

– Affordability – but whether the practical, physical activity of moving, where A.I. Robots would be used, would be an affordable solution anytime soon, is probably the bigger question. I would imagine we are some way off it being affordable for your average moving company, but I believer it is something that even now, is already becoming a pracitical possibility, and it will probably be a completely viable alternative or even the norm in the not so distant future.

Conclusion
I think the industry in which my business exists is going to change and adapt to this new technology. Bigger removals companies may be early adopters, while others will maintain the more human, personal service, at least for a time. Eventually more and more companies will use the A.I. technology for removals services at least to some extent.
